In Mexico, as in many other countries around the world, the civil marriage is the legally binding ceremony that changes your marital status from single to married. The judge who performs the ceremony may do it in the Registry Office (Registro Civil) or outside the office in the place of your choice. The documents needed to apply for the wedding license are as follows: full blood tests, an interview with a medical professional, valid passport, a birth certificate which must be translated in Mexico by an authorized legal translator, the Mexican tourist visa, divorce decree or death certificate of spouse if applicable (copies). For religious or spiritual ceremonies the minister requires two witnesses.
